We're excited to share that Optimising is officially a re-Certified B Corporation!
Every 3 years, all B Corp Certified organisations go through a rigorous re-certification process, which is something we have been working through over the past few months. We've now come out the other side with a shiny new B Impact Score of 100.2 (a 20 point increase from our original certification score of 80.2!). To put that in perspective, the median score for ordinary businesses is 50.9. We're thrilled to have nearly doubled that.
Certified B Corporations are businesses that commit to driving positive change and meeting high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency. Certification is managed by B Lab, a global not-for-profit working to transform the role of business in society. It's a commitment to doing business in a way that benefits people, communities, and the planet, ensuring continued meaningful action across five impact areas: governance, customers, workers, community, and environment.
To be certified requires a deep dive into how an organisation operates across various standards, and beyond the initial certification, B Corp Certified organisations are required to commit to continuous progress and improvement, reassessing against evolving standards.
Our journey in this space first started with a conversation with B Lab Australia & Aotearoa New Zealand in 2020, after acknowledging that here at Optimising, we share the belief that business can (and should) be a force for good. Optimising then officially became a Certified B Corporation in 2021.
Since then, we have continued to seek new ways to make an impact, and keep purpose front of mind in everything we do at Optimising.
Our re-certification score is proof that we're not just maintaining standards - we're raising them. There wasn't one single action that got us across the line! It was a collective effort from the whole team.
From the small, everyday things like recycling in the office, to the bigger-picture moves like partnering with biodiversity-focused organisations like Odonata, or showing up to support our local B Corp community through B Local events, we've made it part of our culture to keep asking how we can do better?
And then actually doing it.

As both a B Corp and a member of 1% for the planet, we have further cemented this purpose within our organisation.
However, our work isn't done quite yet. For Optimising, this is simple the start of our journey towards building a better business and world!
