Apple OS X 10.7 Lion and Macbook Air Refresh coming July 14
Posted on January 01, 2014
The rumours are flying around at the moment but it appears July 14 will be the release date for Apple's latest operating system OS X 10.7 (Lion) and also a refresh of their current Macbook Air line. Apple have booked in an overnighter for some of their stores on the 13th July which usually means they will be doing some training on a new product and updating their posters and such.
OS X Lion
All of the features have already been announced, and they are really bringing the computer operating system in line with their mobile device operating systems (iPhone and iPad). Some of the better features will be built in auto-save and versioning and full screen apps. This really opens the door to App developers to build in these new features into their own apps. OS Lion is priced at US$29 and ~AU$31 here as a digital download (no DVD's supplied).
Most seem pretty set that the new Macbook Airs will feature a new Samsung flash memory with speeds up to 400mbps. These come in sizes 64GB, 128GB and 256GB. You would assume Apple will include at least 2 of these options into their new Air models. Other rumours were that Apple were going to bring back the black (anodized aluminum) case. Pricing is also going to be an interesting point as Apple are really trying to lower their prices across the board to appeal to more of the market, and cut into the massive laptop market. If this new Macbook Air has a big speed and performance increase on the old models, and more in line with the current Macbook Pros, then expect to see a lot of people converting to the ultra light and portable Macbook Air.
